Comment: Integrate the site of the fire station with an improved development. However, at the very least, retain and restore the front elevation facade.

Comment: The fire station is a lovely building which should be protected and given a new lease of life. As a Byfleet resident I will do what I can to help.

Comment: Well done Chris and team! Personally I can remember the Fire Station from the 1940's so it is part of my childhood memories and it makes me sad to see so much of our villages disappearing with demolition everywhere one turns these days.

Comment: It would be a tragedy to lose yet another, indeed now one of the last few, attractive buildings in the Village.

Comment: We are both very aware of the importance in a small town such as byfleet to ensure that we preserve all existing character land marks. Please forward our full support for maintaining the "Old Fire Station" and encouraging the SCC to reconsider their decision to sell the building for re-development.We are convinced that with a little more thought, the Fire Station could be preseved, and alternative uses found.

Comment: It is appalling that this lovely old fire station should be under threat of demolition. Is nothing in Byfleet safe from development?? You certainly have my support for this and any other awful development in this village.

Comment: Don't you think the use of an abandoned site to provide housing for people, create revenue for SCC (thereby reducing pressure on council tax bills) and creating wealth might be a good thing? And who is to say, that something architecturally spectacular could not be created? Don't fear change, embrace it as a positive source for good.

Comment: My full support-I have always loved the fire station as a unique and charming Byfleet building and will get involved to stop its destruction.I have not yet had the chance to sign the petition-is it being held somewhere that we can all sign? [eg the library]

Comment: An important building to the appeal of the area. An organisation such as the Landmark trust could work wonders with a building like that. A bit of imagination could go a long way!

Comment: Byfleet has lost too many of its old buildings over the years. Surely both the abandoned site can be developed without the Fire Station being swept away.

Comment: Surely a use for this lovely old building right at the entrance of the village could be found without harming any development potential of the old youth club site? If all the old buildings are allowed to be picked off, Byfleet will soon become another faceless suburb

Comment: Whilst I am opposed to any proposals to demolish the fire station, I do accept that change is not always a bad thing. I would however urge that, when considering any proposals for this land, the council seek the retention of the fire station building. Perhaps any redevelopment on the redundant land adjacent could facilitate the longer term security of this locally important building.

Comment: My maternal grandfather was a fireman at Byfleet Fire Station during World War Two. Send packs of Airwaves chewing gum to the officers at S.C.C. Perhaps they'll come to their senses...

Comment: There are very few old buildings left in Byfleet. The Fire Station should be retained and given a new use. This is on only a small part of the whole site and as it is in one corner, its retention would barely affect the redevelopment of the rest of the site. A developer could turn the retention of the whole fire station to their advantage if they wanted to.

Comment: Please treasure and value our local heritage. Preserve our local architecture; put it to good use but do not simply rip it down for commercial advantage ~ remember the firemen who went to work never knowing if they would return to their families after their "watch".

Its nice that you are looking to save the station but what about us we are the key holders and use the station on a regualr basis, what plans do you have for us ?? Are friends of Byfleet going to ask us to leave?? Any ideas?

Comment: Hello I know just how you lot feel. The Fire Station in Poole Dorset is now been demolished.Work started in the 2nd week of oct. I was very upset to see it go. It was built in 1936 so thats just over 70 years. Iam a member of The Fire Service Preservation Group and now own a fire engine that was stationed there. My friend was a fireman there so was his dad, grandad, and great grand dad. They knock it down to make way for a new police station/fire offices to be built there. It would of made a great fire museumn. The sister one in weymouth again built bin 1936 is waiting to be demolished also. Keep in there guys and save that station any chance of a lottery grant.
